The solution is to install updates in 'pieces,' one or two maps at a time, check the card, and, if successful, back it up. Despite an apparently successful update, on two occasions, my SD card failed after insertion. Therefore, if you buy any 'extras' besides the map, you will be able to install even less map data. You must make choices about what NOT to install. Be aware that if you buy an update, it will not all fit on the 4 GB SD card. Map updates can be a bear! The process is complicated. I was able to quickly restore the card backup from my laptop.ģ. DO BACKUP YOUR SD CARD! Last year my NAV system suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason. The only way to backup the software is via the NaviExtras Toolbox. If copied to another SD card, the software will not work, presumably a security provision. Drive carefully and observe any restrictions.Ģ. They will, in many cases, unnecessarily add many miles to your route. The 'large vehicle' (LV) settings are useless. For those that have struggled with this system, which was replaced with Rand McNally software beginning in the 2014 model year, here are a few things I have learned (the hard way, of course).ġ.
