The solution is to install updates in 'pieces,' one or two maps at a time, check the card, and, if successful, back it up. Despite an apparently successful update, on two occasions, my SD card failed after insertion. Therefore, if you buy any 'extras' besides the map, you will be able to install even less map data. You must make choices about what NOT to install. Be aware that if you buy an update, it will not all fit on the 4 GB SD card. Map updates can be a bear! The process is complicated.
